Almost a century ago, a tea farmer in Beipu, Hsinchu found
his plants bitten by little green bugs. Though, he still decided to
use the bitten leaves to make tea and brought it to the market.
Surprisingly, it tasted sweeter and soon it was sold out. The price
was much higher than usual. When he happily told his
neighbors, they thought he was bragging about it and few of
them believe him. They named his tea Pengfong tea or

special aroma of Pengfong tea. When tea leaves were bitten, a
chemical reaction changes their flavor. Since the bugs are active
in summer, it is the only time the tea can be harvested. Thus,
the farmers stopped using pesticides to make sure the bugs
