These days, no matter where I go, at any time, I see people “sliding” on their smartphones, even when someone is talking to them or they’re talking to each other. To be honest, it’s just not something I can stand.
Last summer, I joined a group trip to Czech Republic and Austria, two of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Every time people sat down to have meals at the restaurant or to wait for the group leader to finish checking in at the hotel lobby, the first thing everyone else did was take out their cellphones and start sliding. I found I was the only person in the group   36.     didn’t do it. Very often I saw a family of four sitting at the dining table together, but each of them was sliding on their own cellphones! I just couldn’t help thinking, “Why are you guys taking this trip?” “Shouldn’t you take your eyes off the small screen and enjoy everything wonderful in front of you?” “After a 14-hour-long flight here, the very thing that you couldn’t wait to do was this?”
I have been often asked, “Do you use LINE?” My answer is always, “No, I don’t. And I don’t think I ever   37.    ” Here in Taiwan, we‘re always following the trends from foreign countries.           Have you ever dreamed of traveling abroad for a whole year? Now this is not a dream if you have a working holiday visa. You can stay in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, or Canada up to twelve months and make money for your travel at the same time.
A working holiday visa encourages young people to experience living in a foreign country and work legally during their stay. Jobs like fruit picking or waiting tables are easy to find. However, there is an age limit. In Australia, New Zealand and Japan, working holiday visas are given to people between 18 and 30 years old; in Canada, the age limit is 18 to 35.
This one year stay abroad without being a full-time student is known as a “gap year.” It means to take one year out of studying to do something meaningful. You may travel to different places, play dozens of sports, pick up a new language or even do volunteer work. But the most important thing is to take a break and get ready for your next step. If you plan well before you go, a “gap year” can be filled with valuable experiences.

What happens as you get scared? When something moves during the night or a door suddenly closed, it often makes us jump. This reaction usually comes from your fear. Do you like it? In fact, being frightened can sometimes be good for you.
Fear excites your brain, which gives different kinds of hormones for happiness, says Dr. Margee Kerr, who studies fear. It also makes a hormone that helps people become closer with one another. For example, if you are at a haunted house with some friends, that experience can make your friendship better. “Watch people walking out of a haunted house, and you’ll see lots of smiles and high fives,” Kerr says.
There are also studies which show that to be scared can help a person face difficult work. Things like speaking in front of your class or acting in a school play can make you have butterflies in your stomach. But such an experience makes you stronger. “You become more comfortable with fear, so you’re better able to deal with it when things get more difficult,” Kerr says.
Though some fear may be healthy, it’s important to know that people experience fear in different ways. Kerr notes that children under seven can’t tell what is real and what isn’t, so seeing something scary might not be good for their mind.
