Treating blood clots in the lungs and improving heart function and survival following a heart attack. Alteplase may also be used to improve recovery and reduce disability in certain patients who have had a 'stroke'. 

Alteplase is a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). It works by helping to break down unwanted blood clots.

tPA：tissue plasminogen activator

機轉： Alteplase 又稱 t-PA(Tissue Plasmingen Activator)，能快速的活化纖維蛋白溶解酶原，在活化 Plasminogen 之前，必須先和 Fibrin 結合，才能促進 Plasminogen 形成 Plasmin。 

治療：急性心肌梗塞，大規模肺栓塞與急性缺血性中風，若無法使用 tPA 則須於 48hr  內使用 Aspirin。
