My wife, Eleanor , and I took the trainfromParis to Strasbourg, where we were met by our driver and guide. And the minibuswhichgoesalongwith the boat. We stopped off in Barn for an hour on the way. Then we weretaken to Nancywhere the boat was kept.
After the otherpassengersarrived, we had our firstdinner on the boat. Afterdinner we walkedintodowntownNancy, a villagewith a largesquare and woodenhouses.
Monday, October 5
Rainedlastnight, cloudy in the morning, 69°F
We spentabout two hours in Nancy, thensailed on the Canal de la Marne au Rhine. Kind of a lazy day. Eatingbreakfast, lunch, and dinner, afterdinner we watched a tape on Baccarat. Where we willvisittomorrow.
It was pleasant to sit out on deck （甲板）and watch the scenery go by at about 3 mph.
Monday, October 7
Thismourning we droveover to Baccarat and toured its museum and the church , which has thisunbelievablelampthat is going on a worldtour the next day. We did lost of shopping , thenwalkedacross the bridge to see a very , verymodernCatholicchurchwithspecialBaccaratwindows.
We drove to the top of the VogesMountains and starteddown the easternsideLater we drove to Sorrenbourg to see the 13th centurychurch at the Cordeliers. It contains the largestwindow by MarcChagall-24 feetwide by 40 feethigh.
Today we sailedfromSchneckenbush to Saverne. We wentthough two caves, an extremelyunusualpart of the journey. Thisriverscenery is verydifferent. We were in a mountainvalleywithgrassland on one side and a forestbeginning to showsomecolor on the other.
Our dependableminibus was waiting to load the luggage and take us to the hotelwhereeveryonewenttheirseparateways. Our boatingdays are overuntilnexttime.
