對於健康的年輕人而言，可辨別出的最短時間間隔(time interval或稱此為時間解析temporalnresolution)約為2至3毫秒(msec)，可藉由間隔察覺法(gapndetection)或其它方法測出(Fitzgibbons & Wightman, 1982; Buus &nFlorentine, 1985; Green, 1985; Fitzgibbons & Gordon-Salant, 1987)。
