To help people with hypersomnolence（嗜睡） or narcolepsy（猝睡）, psysicians usually prescribe a stimulant such as methylphenidate (Ritalin) or modafinil.

Cataplexy, or loss of muscle tone, can be treated with antidepressant medication, not because people with narcolepsy are depressed, but because antidepressants supress REM (or dream) sleep. Also, sodium oxybate is recommended to treat cataplexy.
