Although / Even though / / Though

(1) although conj. 儘管，連接詞為連接完整句(S+V)。

(2) even though 儘管，同although但語氣較強。

(3) though conj. 儘管，較口語化用法。唯一可用在句尾的"儘管"。

Ex. Although / Even though / Though Michael has earned a lot of money, he is still unsatisfied.

=Michael has earned a lot of money. He is unsatisfied, though. (口語)

*以上三種不可和but同時出現，因為一個句子只能有一個連接詞。

Ex. Although my grandfather is 90, but he is very healthy. (X)

->Although my grandfather is 90, he is very healthy. (O)

= My grandfather is 90, but he is very healthy. (O)

despite / in spite...

Although / Even though / / Though

(1) although conj. 儘管，連接詞為連接完整句(S+V)。

(2) even though 儘管，同although但語氣較強。

(3) though conj. 儘管，較口語化用法。唯一可用在句尾的"儘管"。

Ex. Although / Even though / Though Michael has earned a lot of money, he is still unsatisfied.

=Michael has earned a lot of money. He is unsatisfied, though. (口語)

*以上三種不可和but同時出現，因為一個句子只能有一個連接詞。

Ex. Although my grandfather is 90, but he is very healthy. (X)

despite / in spite of

(1) despite 介. 儘管，介係詞之後要加 N/Ving。

-> despite + N/Ving

-> despite the fact that + 子句(S+V)

(2) in spite of 儘管，用法和despite一模一樣。

Ex. The children were still happy despite losing the baseball game.

= The children were still happy in spite of losing the baseball game.

= The children were still happy despite the fact that they lost the baseball game.

= The children were still happy  in spite of the fact that they lost the baseball game.
