as if意思為｢好像...似的」，多用於表達與事實相反的假設語氣，與as though(彷彿)用法相同，但用法上會因引導子句與主要子句發生的先後而有不同。
as if引導子句與主要子句同時發生，as if引導的子句動詞用過去式(were/V-ed)：
The little girl worked as if she were an adult.(小女孩工作起來像個大人似的，與事實相反的假設語氣，需用were而非was)
as if引導子句比主要子句更早發生，as if引導的子句動詞用過去完成式：
The little boy acted as if he had not broken the window.(小男孩表現得像沒打破窗戶的樣子)
單純推測則用直述句即可
The pot is smoking. It looks as if the food is going to be cooked.(鍋子在冒煙，和起來食物要煮熟了)
