(up)on + N / V-ing 表「一……就……」之意：
Upon arriving at the airport, the traveler exchanged his cash for the local currency.
Upon the final whistle, the team celebrated wildly with their fans.

惟否定副詞片語 no sooner 置句首時，其後所引導的子句須倒裝，助動詞 had 與主詞位置對調。其用法及語意可等同於 hardly / scarcely… before / when…：
