The homeless people don’t have home to go back and it’s
hard to take a hot bath or sleep on the clean bed for them.
There is no fresh food in the refrigerator. There is no warm
blanket for them to tuck. There are no funny TV programs
for them to watch with their family. The street lamp isn’t
romantic but a living light to them. They live everywhere in
the city. What can we do for them?
The Big Issue, the magazine
helps the homeless people to take control of their lives by
selling it. It’s a magazine about current affairs every month
in the world, of course in Taiwan. We can buy it from them
and not just give money to them. The homeless people don’t
mean they are not able to work and that’s what the Big Issue is
about. Making money by selling the magazine makes them
feel good about themselves.
The Big Issue vendors are the persons who take the first
step to rebuild their lives. Next time, when you see them
near the MRT station, you can spend one hundred dollars on
the magazine to help them. And they can live by themselves.
You’ve got to help yourself before you’re ready to get help.
