HSV keratitis is classified according to the affected layers of the cornea: epithelial (dendritic or geographical), stromal (necrotizing or non-necrotizing), and endothelial (disciform) keratitis. Monotherapy with an antiviral agent is sufficient for treating epithelial HSV keratitis, while antiviral therapy in combination with a steroid is recommended for stromal and endothelial keratitis.
