看到the，我們就知道，它是指定的意思，後面如果接單數名詞，代表指定的一群人中剩下的最後那一個，可以直白翻譯成剩下的那一個（很多人分不清楚another跟the other的原因是因為中文都翻成另外一個，翻譯不夠直白）。後面如果接複數名詞，則直白翻成剩下的那一些，並且，複數名詞常被省略寫成the others。the other跟the others經常出現在論述中。以下舉出常見的情況來說明這些字的用法。

the other的例句：要記得the other只有一個

1、One of the two watches is expensive, and the other is even more expensive.
在這裡指定了兩個手錶，one表示其中一隻，因為只以兩隻，所以剩下的那一隻就是the other（後面被省略，因為語意很清楚）


2、I have three sisters: one is 11 years old, another is 5, and the other is 3.
這裡指定三個，而且分別敘述，所以用one…, another…, and the other…(指定一群，最後敘述的要加上the)

同上具，但在這情況中，先說一個用one，剩下的那兩個一起說，用the others（sisters這名詞被省略，在other後面加上s來表示複數）
