itraconazole Inhibits the CYP-450–dependent synthesis of ergosterol, which is a vital component of fungal cell membranes. 99.8% of itraconazole and 99.5% of hydroxyitraconazole are protein bound. The major metabolite is hydroxyitraconazole. Metabolized predominantly by CYP3A4 isoenzyme, resulting in several metabolites.
