因為 day 和 date 兩字發音太接近

所以為了避免混淆，當要問某事的日期時，根本是用不同的句型

而不是直接問 What date

比如要問今天是幾月幾號

一般會說：What’s today’s date? 或 What is the date today?

而不是 What date is (it) today?

因為那會和問今天星期幾的 What day is (it) today? 實在讓人不容易分清楚

裡面有提到他們一般不會說 What date is (it) today?)

假使不是要問今天的日期，而是要問其他事情的日期

也比較會用 What is the date of ……? 的句型，而不是 What date is……?

比如：What is the date of the meeting? (那個會議是在幾月幾號？)

What is the date of Marion’s wedding party? (瑪莉安的婚宴是幾月幾號？)

What was the date of the concert we went to with Hank? 
(我們和漢克一起去的那場演唱會是幾月幾號？) (已舉行過的演唱會)

如果要在使用一般動詞的句子裡問關於日期的問題

比如「你幾月幾號要離開？」

一般會先用 When 這個疑問詞，比如 When are you leaving?

在說話當時的情境下，和從句子剩下的部份來判斷

被問者通常會知道對方想知道的是哪種時間

(幾點幾分、星期幾、幾月幾號等，

像是問 When did you go to bed? 應該回答幾點

而 When is your birthday? 通常回答幾月幾號

When did you get married? 則是年份或幾歲時)

萬一被問者提供的時間答案不是問者想要的

則問者通常會再加以說明

舉例來說，要是乙要出國，甲問 When are you leaving?

若乙回答 I’m leaving next Monday. 不是甲想要的答案

甲想要知道的是幾月幾號的話

就會說：What is the date (you are leaving on)?

順便補充一件事，剛才聽電影說到for what....

正常的Great Western Restaurant 不會用 For what....?

除非他想被開除。

用for what OOXX 開頭, 會用到這 for what ....

是在對別人的話有所 質疑， 意思接近 中文的  憑什麼這樣做？ 憑什麼是？ 也就是用在這裡的話是說

憑什麼樣的日子？(意思是想和顧客吵架，對顧客make a reservation的事情有所質疑。

是說 你想憑什麼樣的日子來預定位置？(質疑對方有資格，要憑什麼能夠用什麼樣的日子做預定這種事)，這不是很禮貌的問話方式。

所以開頭才用 for 強調 for=>想因為什麼因素  剛找外國人嗜好是動畫、電玩日翻英的人問了。是上面的意思沒錯。(這題是誰出的……)

這中文意思印象中都是在說…… 你什麼鳥東西？憑什麼？for what?

問計畫 一律是用what date

另外。 what date  比 What is the date 還要常用。一天不知就看到n次。很少人會落落長的what is the date=>這樣是特別強調日期。

但reservation並不是在特別範圍中，選出the date 而是不特定的。所以一般是會說 what date

what day=>什麼樣的日子，回答會描述 是什麼樣的日子。 蠢人節、星期日、星期一…或國際記念日…等，意義的日子或事件的。

所以這邊如果用 For what ___day_?  下面會回答，什麼祝慶或是什麼慶典的日子，或是星期幾也比較正常。或是回答記念結婚週年…等。

但客人一定會覺得"問這樣多做什？"問別人什麼樣的日子要訂？(客人聽了心中一定是orz，心裡想關你屁事？我是要訂位置，你問我那天日子有什意義？)

what date==>什麼日期==>答 年、月、日。

就是問日期而已。

所以

一般會說：What’s today’s date? 或 What is the date today?  (today 是限制時間範圍，所以用 the date)

而不是 What date is (it) today?(因為有限制時間範圍)
