Vander's Human Physiology 11 th Ed. p.471 說 明 ”The central chemoreceptors are located in the medulla and, like the peripheral chemoreceptors, provide excitatory synaptic input to the medullary inspiratory neurons. They are stimulated by an increase in the H+ concentration of the brain's extracellular fluid. As we will see later, such changes result mainly from changes in blood PCO2”,由此可知,CO2 影響延髓化學感受器屬於間接影響呼吸,真正刺激延髓化學感受器神經元者是腦脊髓液的 H+ 。但當 H+ 濃度增加時,才會刺激其反應。
