The sun rises in the east.   太陽從東方升起。
(rise 後面並沒有一個受詞來接受它的動作) 

Raise your hand if you have a question for the speaker.  如果你有問題想問講者，就舉手。

(至於 raise，後面就有 your hand 當受詞來接受動作，所以屬於及物動詞。)

rise 的用法

rise 的中文多為「上升、升高、增加」之意。此外，rise 有個地方要小心

它的三態變化是不規則的，為 rise、rose、risen

Be careful! Smoke is rising from the pan.
小心一點！鍋子在冒煙。

His girlfriend’s voice rose while she was getting irritated.
他女友很不爽 ?，聲音開始高八度。

所以看上面的例句可以再次發現：它的後面都沒有接受詞！

rise 還有一個值得留意的延伸意思，即「起身、起床」

It is said that the Japanese writer rises at four a.m.
據說那位日本作家都是早上四點起床。

最後，rise也有「上漲、增加」的意思，能用來形容數字或是數量增加，來看個例子吧

表達「價格上升、增加」，分別用 rise、raise 的話，可以怎麼說呢？

The price of this product will rise (= increase).       ▶️ 不及物用法，後面無受詞。
這項產品的價格將會上漲。    

The store will need to raise (= increase) the prices.▶️ 及物用法，後面必須有受詞。
那間店將會需要漲價。

 raise 還有兩個常見用法，分別是「引起、導致」和「加薪」

The announcement has raised a number of problems.     該項聲明已經引起一些問題。
▶️ 這邊的 a number of 是片語，表示「一些」。

He is thinking about asking his boss for a raise.                他正在考慮向老闆要求加薪。 
▶️ 你發現了嗎？這邊的 raise 前面有 a 耶！這是因為 raise 當加薪時，多屬於名詞用法。
