Historically, the urethral cotton swab test (Q-tip test) was the most common test used to evaluate urethral mobility for gynecologists, while urology used fluoroscopy. However, the cotton swab test is uncomfortable for patients and has questionable test-retest and interobserver reliability. It is not possible to assess the accuracy of this and other tests of urethral hypermobility since there is no accepted gold standard.
