Patients with anorexia nervosa may demonstrate a reduced glomerular filtration rate and problems concentrating their urine, which leads to diuresis, hyponatremia, and dehydration [77,78]. Patients with restricting anorexia nervosa typically present with low creatinine due to reduced muscle mass [7]. Renal function appears to recover with weight gain.

Potassium, magnesium, and phosphate are occasionally depleted [8], and hypokalemia may induce nephropathy.

Electrolyte abnormalities may indicate covert purging.
