Pharmacology/Actions

Bethanechol directly stimulates cholinergic receptors. Its effects are principally muscarinic and at usual doses have negligible nicotinic activity. It is more resistant to hydrolysis than acetylcholine by cholinesterase and, therefore, has an increased duration of activity.
