⑹ The WTO created a panel, at the request of the United States, to investigate China’s protection of intellectual property. Washington believes China has not set up criminal procedures and penalties to deal with counterfeiting of trademarks or copyright piracy on a commercial scale. The U.S. request, described by China as regrettable, was the latest in a series of disputes to bedevil U.S.-China trade relations. China has also launched a case against the United States over anti-dumping measures on paper imports from China.
