Taiwan, a small island with diverse landscape---- such as hundred of mountains and rivers, provides different types of hibitats. Unfortunely, the variety and numbers of animals started decreaseing since centuries ago. From 20th, the island developed rapidly while numerous animals' hibitats been occupied by human. One of endangered species is Leopard Cat, inhabiting middle Taiwan, which are threatened by human being and other species.
First of all, industrialization and urbanization came with distruction of the natural environment. The more human has developed, the more damage Leopard Cat has confronted with---- Their hibitats decreased severely. Furthermore, infrastructure construction such as highway leads to frequent roadkills. Second of all, large amounts of stray dogs and cats cause more pressure on Leopard Cat. This species has to compete with dogs and cats to survive, and sometimes even becomes preys and hunted by a pack of stray dogs. It's obvious that Leopard Cats in Taiwan encounter with tough stituation.
To deal with this issue, people should change their concept. Wildlife and environment have to be preserve, and the development could slow down. Not all resources should spend on human being. For example, wildlife corridor can offer Leopard Cats a safe method when moving, instead of crossing roads. Moreover, people have to stop feeding stray dogs and cats, and get those animals fixed. In the meantime, those who abandon pets should be punished seriously. If we can create a more friendly environment for wildlife, being willing to spend money and time to conserve them, the number of wild animals in Taiwan might increase.
