As the development of technology, mobile phones became more and more popular in recent years. It was called smart phones to emphasize epochal improvement. The easy access to the Internet is attractive to people in every ages. It's not surprising that many teenagers and children have these high-tech devices. Nonetheless, whether a smart phone is a benefit or an interruption in classes is controversial. In my viewpionts, mobile phones aren't essential to elementary students, but outlawing it is way too far.
From one side, using smart phones during classes can improve efficiency in many aspects. Firstly, students can take photos to record teachers' blackboard-wiriting or classmates' notes. They don't have to spend too much time on copying in classes. Secondly, through texting apps, students can exchenge ideas and disscuss with each other. In the meantime, teachers are able to keep in touch with students immediately. Last but not least, teachers and students are able to search for the latest information through the Internet, which saves lots of time.
On the other side, the use of mobile phones will make students be less concentrated and affect their school lives in negative way. First of all, students might surf the Internet in classes, which will disturb them with entertainment contents. Second of all, some children will be exposed to violent or pornographic contents. Students in elementary school are not old enough to filter infromation. Finally, some children will probably become victims of cyberbullying, and those scars would never heal.
It seems that using mobile phones in elementary school is harmful to students. Ban on cellphone use, however, leave teachers and students have no choice on teaching tools. Making a balance between protection of children's mental health and improvement of lesson's quality is necessary. Outlawing the use of mobile phones directly is not a proper solution to this issue.
