一、填充:10 % (每題 1 分,每格限填一個英文單字。)    Bluefin tuna is well liked in Taiwan, served as a regular dish in daily life. Each year between April and June, bluefin tuna s 1 ls gather off the coast of Pingtung, in southern Taiwan, for their annual migration and mating. It’s during this time that the tuna have the highest fat content in their bellies, which also happens to make them a delectable meal for g 2 ts. The buttery, marbled meat is most often used in sushi and sashimi. In fact, bluefin tuna fishing has been playing an important role in Pingtung’s economy for years, to the point that the town of Donggang launches an annual festival dedicated to the fish’s harvest season. This festival attracts foodies and curious onlookers, and also raises money for charities that benefit underprivileged children and the poor. Visitors to the festival can see hundreds of enormous bluefin tuna laid out for auction at the Donggang Fish Market, some of 3 are twice the size of a person. After that, people can sample the fish and other seafood d 4 ies, and take in street performances and tuna-related light displays.   These years, bluefin tuna has become popular in a number of countries, including Japan, where it is offered as part of their s 5 e diet. But its popularity has a do 6 , namely, overfishing to the extent that all three bluefin tuna species are listed as endangered. Despite the fact that the fish are teetering on the b 7 of extinction, most efforts to protect bluefin tuna have failed at the hands of the fishing industries in Japan, the US, New Zealand, and several Mediterranean countries. They have found it difficult to pass up the big paychecks that come from selling bluefin tuna meat on the open market. Taiwan has i 8 ed catch limits on the fish to ensure that it doesn’t disappear off its coasts. Still, tuna in other parts of the world, such as the Atlantic Ocean, are disappearing. Figures show that between 1957 and 2007, the Atlantic bluefin tuna population declined by about 75 percent because of overfishing. Scientists have now found that Pacific bluefin tuna are experiencing a similar drop in numbers. That’s likely because fishermen catch the fish as they try to breed, which prevents them from having a large number of o 9 g.   Japan is now attempting to c 10 e Pacific bluefin tuna on an industrial scale, the first such move to farm the fish. The ultimate goal is for the catching of bluefin tuna in Japanese waters to decrease, and eventually, end altogether. It’s hoped that modern technology will help the bluefin tuna bounce back in the wild so that we don’t lose this majestic creature.
