Tourism today has become rather specialized. In addition to the general tours, which only allow the traveler to quickly visit one or two heritage sites and do a little shopping on the side, innovative travel agencies offer a number of itineraries for people with special interests. For modern-day religious pilgrims, trips are arranged to Jerusalem and Mecca. For people who are interested in nature, ocean liners retrace the voyages taken by the naturalist Charles Darwin. Nature lovers can also take ecological tours that teach how to distinguish the plant and insect life in preserved wetlands. One of the newer types of tourism is called dark tourism, which includes tours to cemeteries and prisons. The traveler can visit the tombs of famous people at a cemetery in Paris or visit prisons where well-known political prisoners or hardened criminals were imprisoned. For people who take such specialized tours, learning something is more important than just being able to say, “I’ve been there.”

請依下文回答第 46 題至第 50 題: The term vegan was coined in England in 1944 by Donald Watson, co-founder of the British Vegan Society, to mean “non-dairy vegetarian”; the society also opposed the consumption of eggs. In 1951, the society extended the definition of veganism to mean “the doctrine that man should live without exploiting animals,” and in 1960, H. Jay Dinshah started the American Vegan Society, linking veganism to the concept of avoidance of violence against living things.

Veganism is a small but growing movement. In many countries, the number of vegan restaurants is increasing. Also, some of the top athletes in certain endurance sports—for instance, the Ironman triathlon and the ultramarathon—practice veganism, including raw veganism.

Well-planned vegan diets have been found to offer protection against certain degenerative conditions, including heart disease, and are regarded by the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada as appropriate for all stages of the life-cycle. Vegan diets tend to be higher in dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, and phytochemicals, and lower in calories, saturated fat, cholesterol, vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and vitamin B12. Because uncontaminated plant foods do not provide vitamin B12 (which is produced by micro-organisms such as bacteria), vegans should eat foods fortified with B12 or take a daily supplement.

請依下文回答第 46 題至第 50 題: I was raised in a very conservative family on the island of Fiji in the South Pacific. At an early age we were taught close family ties and conservative ways. Family members worked together as one unit, and we respected our elders. Upon arriving in the United States, I discovered a very different world, where children speak as they wish to their parents and at times even treat them with disrespect. This different world eventually led to some difficulties between me and my parents. When I was eighteen, a couple of my friends moved out of their parents' house and into an apartment of their own. They asked me to move in with them. These friends were born in the United States, and their upbringing was less conservative than mine. Their parents considered it perfectly acceptable for them to move out and live independently at eighteen. But when I spoke to my parents, it was clear they did not want me to leave home. My friends couldn't understand this and they kept telling me to move out anyway. I felt caught between my friends and my parents. I felt that my friends were doing something that was socially acceptable and that my parents were being old-fashioned and not behaving as Americans should behave. For me, after many sleepless nights, my obligation as a daughter overcame my yearning for independence. I realized that my parents' unwillingness for me to move out was because of their love for me. I also realized that if my friends were true friends, they would accept my decision. I told them I'd decided to stay with my parents. Most of them accepted my decision. Now, looking back, I feel that I made a right decision.
