In May 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris. This was a milestone in aviation history. In the years before his epic journey, Lindbergh had made hundreds of air-mail delivery flights from St. Louis to many parts of the United States. It was during one of these flights that he invented the idea of flying solo across the Atlantic. Flying alone in all kinds of weather, he believed he could do what no one else had been able to do successfully. He named his aircraft the Spirit of St Louis and supervised every detail of production and testing before the flight. Extra fuel tanks had to be fitted, which made the aircraft very difficult to fly. It was so extremely uncomfortable, because the cockpit was small and cramped. But, Lindbergh was an aviator with immense courage and determination, who refused to give in to fatigue on the long thirty-three and a half hour flight to Paris. The Spirit of St Louis is now permanent display in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. Aviation has come a long way since Lindbergh’s groundbreaking flight.

【題組】43. How many stops did Charles Lindbergh drop by when he flew from New York to Paris?
(A) Once
(B) Twice
(C) None
(D) Countless
