四、閱讀測驗【請依照段落上下文意,選出最適當的答案】
Scary movies are something you either really love or avoid completely. Logically, we should be running away from things that cause fear. But horror movies attract a lot of people.
There are different reasons why people like scary movies. A study found that people who like horror movies tend to enjoy feeling really intense emotions like fear. When you're scared, your brain's immediate response is to fight or run away. When this happens, your entire body can react. For instance, your heart beats faster and your muscles become tense. It can even make you scream or jump. In other words, a horror movie stimulates the brain and the brain responds with the physical and emotional sensations we call fear. For some people, this is a lot of fun.
Moreover, people may feel good to go into an experience that seems scary or risky and then come out safe and sound. As an expert says, "It challenges our beliefs about risk. In some ways, it can reset people so that things that had seemed frightening may be easier to deal with in the future." For instance, these people may find that after watching horror movies, it’s not as scary to ask their boss for a raise, face a budget shortage, or prepare to give a public speech.
Some dating coaches recommend watching a horror movie as a good way to get closer to your partner. A study found that fear arousing situations, like watching a scary movie, can increase the attraction between two people. Aside from increasing attraction, it can even bring you closer together. People become closer when they have a shared experience of being afraid of the dark or axe murderers. When you're vulnerable with another person, it creates a sense of intimacy.
