Answer questions 21-25 based on the following material, which is part of a story between John and Mr. Smith.

John always considered himself an ordinary man with an unremarkable life. He worked as a clerk in a small, quiet town, going about his daily routine with predictable monotony. That is until the arrival of Mr. Smith, a mysterious figure who seemed to appear out of thin air one fine morning.

Mr. Smith was a tall, distinguished gentleman with silver hair and piercing blue eyes. He exuded an air of mystery, and there was something about him that instantly captured John's attention. From that moment on, John's life took an unexpected turn.

As days turned into weeks, John noticed Mr. Smith's uncanny ability to predict events before they happened. He would casually mention things like the outcome of a sports game, the weather for the next day, or even personal matters about people John had never discussed with him. It was as if Mr. Smith possessed a sixth sense, leaving John in awe and curiosity.

Intrigued, John mustered the courage to strike up a conversation with Mr. Smith. Over a cup of coffee, he inquired about the source of his knowledge. Mr. Smith, with a knowing smile, revealed he was a time traveler from the distant future. He had been sent back to the present to observe and guide certain individuals who held the potential to change the course of history. As John struggled to digest this revelation, Mr. Smith explained that John was one of those individuals. He spoke of a future where calamity loomed, where mankind faced its darkest hour, and where John's actions had the power to alter the fate of humanity. Mr. Smith believed that by befriending John and helping him unlock his hidden potential, he could guide him to make the right choices and avert the impending disaster.
25. How might John's understanding of his own potential and purpose be influenced by Mr. Smith's belief in his ability to change the course of history?

(A) John may become overwhelmed by the weight of expectations.
(B) John may become more confident and driven to make a difference.
(C) John may question his own capabilities and feel inadequate.

Answer questions 26-34 based on the following material, which is part of an article about electroreception.

Electroreception: A brief introduction

Electroreception, the capacity to perceive weak electric fields, is a remarkable biological phenomenon allowing aquatic species to effortlessly navigate these deep sea habitats. This unique sense is only found in aquatic or amphibious creatures because water serves as an effective conductor of electricity.

Electroreception can be categorized into two variants: passive and active electroreception. The first one is passive electroreception – the ability of certain animals to receive and interpret electric signals generated by other animals, aiding in the perception of their location. The ability to passively sense electric signals provides animals with important information about their surroundings. For example, some aquatic species, such as sharks, rays, and certain species of fish, use passive electroreception to locate prey. When prey animals move or contract their muscles, they generate weak electric fields that can be detected by the electroreceptors of these predators. This allows the predators to precisely locate their prey, even in dark or murky waters where other senses like vision may be limited.

The second variant of electroreception is active electroreception, which refers to the ability of certain animals to actively generate and emit weak electric fields, using specialized organs called electroreceptors, and detect distortions or changes in these fields to gather information about their surroundings. These active electroreceptors help with mating signals, territorial displays, and locating objects in water. The use of active electroreception goes beyond perception and communication. For instance, weakly electric fish employ a fascinating mechanism called the Jamming Avoidance Response (JAR). It is a fascinating behavior exhibited by certain species of weakly electric fish to avoid interference and maintain clear electroreception in the presence of conspecifics (members of the same species) emitting similar electric signals. This behavior is crucial for these fish as it ensures accurate communication, efficient prey detection, and reduces the risk of confusion or misinterpretation of electric signals.
