Scout's pace：20 paces walking and 20 paces running alternately Scout's pace serves two useful purposes. One is to cover ground without being tired. The other use is to measure distances. With a bit of practice you can develop a steady rate of 1 mile in 12 minutes or 2 kilometers in 15 minutes, not varying 15 seconds either way. To learn this timing method measures a half-mile with a car's speedometer. Scouts pace the distance forward and back until the timing is exacted.
