Why aren't hemangiomas routinely resected?

Why might a mandibular hemangioma undergo marginal resection?

For intraosseous hemangiomas of the mandible, surgery may involve a marginal resection (removing the lesion while preserving mandibular continuity) because:

  1. The lesion infiltrates bone, making simple curettage prone to recurrence.
  2. Bleeding risk is substantial—an en bloc resection after appropriate planning (and sometimes preoperative embolization) can provide better hemorrhage control than piecemeal removal.
