在CT系統中，通常有兩個collimator︰prepatientncollimator 和 predetector collimator，第一種 prepatient collimator 架置在鄰近 x-ray tube 處，限制打到病人身上的有效射束，可以決定 slice thickness (又稱為sensitivity profile)、patient dose，另一種 predetectorncollimator 可阻擋 detector arrayn接收到的x-ray射束，降低打到 detector arrayn的 scatternradiation，因此當 predetectorncollimator 與 prepatientncollimator 適當的結合後可決定slice thickness。
