人專注的時間不長，在對話時，到了後面很容易分心。所以，大部分的情況，說話者會將重點擺在前面先說。形容詞跟副詞是說話者對某件事物的意見，如果主詞是to V跟Ving片語或名詞子句時，為了讓聽者立刻抓住自己的重點（意見），他們會使用it當主詞，將真正的主詞，卻不是他們想要強調的重點放到句子後面，這種用法的it被稱為虛主詞。
