Glucocorticoids decrease glycogenolysis; therefore, hepatic glycogen stores are increased. Hypoglycemia does not occur, due to the hyperglycemic effects of glucocorticoids via other mechanisms, including gluconeogenesis (formation of glucose from protein or fat).
