The prime minister often invited people to dinner parties at his home. He used dining as an art to display his conversational(會話的) talents and to engage in(從事於) political(政治的) debate(辯論,討論), to confer with(商討) friends and to win over(爭取) rivals(對手). During theWWII, he used dining to exert(發揮) his conversational skills to persuade his allies(ally的複數,盟友), Franklin Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin,to fight the war. Churchill used dining and the dinner table(餐桌) to do what could not always be done at the conference table(會議桌).
