 Creativity is a characterization reserved to those whose products are initially seen to be novel within a domain but are ultimately recognized as acceptable within an appropriate community. Judgments of originality or creativity can be made only by knowledgeable members of the field, though that field can be ancient or newly constituted. There is a tension between creativity and expertise; certainly one may be expert without being creative; and creativity may be manifest before someone has attained the level of a master.
