Memories can be devided into three types, instant, short-term, and long-term. Instant memory does not last for over two or three seconds, which is the time it takes for people to store what they've sensed. Short-term memory could last from seconds to a few minutes. When one checks a phone number and makes a call, after hanging up the phone, he or she will probably forget the number right away. Long-term memory could last for one's lifetime. However, some experts believe that long term memory could be undermined if not used frequently.
