High-performing students
- define: (1) score highly in test, (2) can follow what the teacher says
- problems & solutions
- (1) not listening to class (because it's too easy for them) --> designing personalized tasks
- (2) not willing to work with others (because others are inefficient) --> assigning leadership
Low-performing students
- Some of them are totally unmotivated students. Others are hard learners but struggle to keep up with the lesson.
- problems & solutions
- the former aren't interested in the subject. --> including activities, images, multimedia in the lesson
- the latter are overwhelmed by the undigested information. --> simplifying tasks for them, building scaffoldings, or pairing them up with students who understand.
GOOD LEARNERS absorb knowledge from the subject materials and have developed strategies to learn, so they are mostly HIGH PERFORMERS, except for those who have an issue on test taking. They are good at learning, but not necessarily GOOD STUDENTS from teachers' perspectives since they -
- may not concentrate in class (but do their own things)
- may not spend much time studying (but can still score nicely)
- may not hand in their assignments on time
Re-define tests and grades:
not limited to an indicator of personal achievement,
but can be parts of the learning process. For instance, making the test an in-class activity, involving teacher-student and peer cooperation.
