5. Puromycin is an antibiotic that has an effect on both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Puromycin, which is structurally similar to the aminoacyl terminus of an aminoacyl-tRNA (see diagram), inhibits protein synthesis by releasing nascent polypeptide chains before their synthesis is completed.
