Collocation (組合、搭配)

Collocation is a pair of or a group of words that are often used together (word partner).

These combinations sound natural to native speakers. 

舉例：

我們會說  I made a few mistakes. 而不會說 I did a few mistakes. 

Collocation可分為兩種：

(1) Lexical collocation

動詞、名詞、形容詞或副詞的完美搭配組合。

【例如】

adv. + adj. -- completely satified (而非 downright satisfied)

adj. + n. -- heavy rain (而非 big rain)

n. + v. -- lions roar (而非 lions shout)

v. + n. -- commit suicide (而非 undertake suicide)

(2) grammatical collocation

某個動詞、形容詞後面一定要接某個介係詞；某個名詞後面一定要接特定的動詞型態

【例如】

v. + prep. -- depend on (而非 depend of)

adj. + prep. -- afraid of (而非 afraid at)

n. + particular form of verb -- look forward to + Ving (而非 Look forward to +原V)
