●In one retrospective series, the recurrence rate after simple cystectomy was 8 percent among children whose cysts had not been infected, compared with 40 percent in children whose cysts had been infected [58]. Similarly, among patients who underwent more extensive surgery, the recurrence rate was 1.4 percent in those with noninfected cysts as compared with 14 percent in those with infected cysts [58].
